de weg naar huis......

Aangezien DH vakantie heeft , gaan we afentoe eens op "strooptocht" , kijken naar dingen die we misschien ooit eens een keer gaan kopen........of niet.
We gaan graag eens neuzen bij de diverse tuincentra in de buurt, gewoon, om ideëen op te doen.
Zou deze misschien iets zijn voor bij ons in de tuin??

Ach...toch liever niet...het ís en blíjft een gevaarlijk roofdier

DH is on leave, so we love strolling around looking for things we may ever buy....or not.
One of the places we go then is to the gardencenters in our neighbourhood, to get some ideas we can use in our garden.
maybe this one is something for us?
Although, maybe better not...........it is and will always be a predator!!!!

Een paardje is veiliger...maarja, ook meer werk natuurlijk.

a horse probably is much safer....but more work also.

Dan het toch maar gewoon bij bloemen houden.
Hoezo gewoon eigenlijk?.....ze zijn stuk voor stuk prachtig!!

So we'll just stick to the normal flowers..

although normal?........In fact they are all so gorgeous!!!!!

Op deze tuinafscheiding ( zo mooi met dat glas ertussen) staat mijn naam.......mits ik maar een dikke portemonnee wil trekken

This dividing wall ( so beautiful with the glaspieces in it) has my name written all over it, at least as long as I'm willing to pay loads of money for it 

Maar dan komen we bij mijn grote droom.

Een hele mooie orientaalse waterpartij!!!!!

Wauw, die wil ik meteen wel hebben in mijn tuin.

Maarja.....in onze ieniemini tuin kan er dan ook niets meer bij.......zelfs wijzelf niet !!!!



And then there's my big dream!!

that gorgeous oriental garden with the waterfalls in it.

Wauw...that's one I want to have in my garden.

But well.....then I can't put anything else with it in our littlebittyminigarden......., not even ourselves!!!!!!

ach ja...een mens moet toch kunnen dromen op zijn tijd, nietwaar?

Maar terug naar de werkelijkheid, en die kan ook heel leuk zijn!

Afgelopen zondag werden we getrakteerd op een uitje door schoonzus- en broer, nog voor onze verjaardag.

We zijn samen naar de boekenbeurs geweest in Maastricht.

Lekker vroeg zodat het nog rustig was

Oh well........people must have dreams once in a while, isn't it?

But now back to true life, and that can be great too!

Last sunday we were invited by BIL and SIL to go on a day out, as a treat for our birthdays.

We went to a bookfair in Maastricht.

Because we went quite early it wasn't crowded at first.





En natuurlijk mochten we ook boeken uitzoeken, zie hier mijn buit

And ofcourse we could pick some books...here's my catch

Met deze ben ik héél erg in mijn nopjes, had niet gedacht ze daar te vinden.

Er waren nog meer quiltboeken, maar die vond ik toch nog behoorlijk aan de prijs voor op een beurs.

en ook nog twee boeken van jennifer chiaverini, maar ik vind quiltboeken leuk.....als er tenminste patronen instaan.

Lézen over quilts vind ik minder.....maar misschien is dit een tip voor iemand anders die naar de boekenbeurs gaat.

I'm extremely happy with these , didn't expect to find them there.

They had some more quiltbooks, but I thought them a bit to expensive for a fair.

I even found two books from Jennifer chiaverini, but I like quiltbooks as long as they have patterns included.

I'm less interested in books with stories about quilts....but it may be a tip for someone else who is going to visit the bookfair soon in another town.

Dan naar de quiltzaken, dit is namelijk een quiltblog.

Mijn kompas wilde niet erg meewerken.

Eerst geprobeerd met de naaimachine vast te zetten, maar dat werd niet mooi.

Toen er met de hand op geappliceerd, maar hij bleef erg hobbelig.

Dus tenslotte maar de stijfsel/plak-methode gebruikt

Intussen was ik echter al zo geagiteerd dat ik vergeten ben on daar foto's van te maken.

Maar goed...DH en ik hebben een cirkel, even groot als mijn kompas , uit karton gesneden.

Let's talk  quilting now, as this is a quiltingblog.

My compass wasn't working along with me.

I sew it with the machine but it wasn't neat.

Then I appliqued it by hand, but still it was very wonky.

at last I used the starche/glue method.

I was so agitated I forgot to make some pictures of it.

But DH and I drew a circle onto some cartboard.

Daarmee heb ik de cirkel getekend op de achterkant van de achtergrondstof.

Deze heb ik grofweg uitgesneden.

De rand van het karton ( het stuk waaruit de cirkel gesneden is) heb ik achterop gelegd en vervolgens de rand van de stof er met stijfsel op vastgestreken zodat de ronding van de cirkel er blijvend inzit.

Het karton eraf gehaald, de kompas ónder de achtergrondstof gespeld en vervolgens weer met de machine vastgezet...klaar.

I used that to draw the circle to the wrong side of the backgroundfabric.
I cut the circle out of the fabric, minding a big seam.
The piece of cardboard where the circle was cut from I put on the fabric.
With the starch I iron  the fabric on the cardboard so it makes a perfect circle.
I took the cardboard off , put the compass behind the background fabric and sew it in place with the sewingmachine.....ready!!!

Zoals je ziet zit er inmiddels een blauwe rand omheen.
En vervolgens het volgende probleem.
deze tweede rand moest gesneden worden op 45  1/3 graden??????
Die 45 graden snap ik nog wel....maar hoe te doen met die 1/3 erachteraan??
Geen idee.
Ik heb dus maar wat geprobeerd en het pakte aardig uit.



As you can see there is a blue border added.
And that leads me to problem number two.
The second border had to be cut 45 1/3 degree.
Now the 45 degree part I do understand, but what about the 1/3 after that???
No idea.
I just tried something and it looked as it was turning out ok.

Eigenlijk is zo'n kompas een ouderwetse tomtom........een ideaal navigatiesysteem om altijd de weg naar huis terug te vinden ;-)

In fact this compass is an oldfashioned tomtom.......an ideal navigationsystem to always find your way back home ;-)

Inmiddels ben ik alweer een eind verder met de quilt maar aangezien dit al zó'n lange log is zal ik daar maar de volgende keer mee verder gaan.

Meanwhile I'm a lot further with the quilt but because this is already such a long log  I will leave that to next time.
